Children of the City Distributes Toys and Gifts to Hundreds of Children this Christmas

New Yorkers braved the biting cold and came together to help hundreds of families at Children of the City's Christmas event on Saturday December 18, 2010. Over 500 children and 100 adults were invited to our headquarters in Brooklyn where 1,000+ toys and gifts were distributed by volunteers who came from as far as Richmond, Virginia to participate. Prior to the event our headquaters was filled with the joy of volunteers dropping off brand-new toys and socializing at our gift-wrapping parties.

“We are so glad to partner with various agencies who gave gifts including New York Cares who selected Children of the City again this year as an official Winter Wishes partner; children were able to write a letter requesting specific gifts that New York Cares partner companies were able to fulfill. We were able to connect the neediest children with our partners because of our direct in-home contact with the children and families in the communities we serve” said Joyce Mattera, Founder and Executive Director.

Christmas toys and gifts were donated by several partners of Children of the City, including New York Cares, St. John's Bread and Life, Basile Builders, Morrison Cohen LLP, NYCRC, NYSUM, Brianna's Hair Salon, MTV, Loews Hotels, The Louis Berger Group, and many other companies and individuals.

Since 1981, Children of the City has been serving the underprivileged children in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Starting out as a children’s prevention outreach in the early years, services have evolved to help children and their families achieve success in education, social relationships, home, financial and career. Our dedicated team of professionals and highly committed volunteers visit one thousand children every single month, and provide many services to hundreds of them on a daily and weekly basis. We are dedicated to the young lives we reach every day, helping to give them a better tomorrow.
